2015 Creekside Zinandel
Old Vine – Estate
The Creekside Vineyard was planted soon after the repeal of Prohibition in the mid-1930s. These old vines consistently produce beautiful bunches of complex fruit yielding an excellent zinfandel. The 2015 vintage was the final year of a prolonged drought resulting in a significant drop in tonnage. However, with lower yields and the age of the vines, this wine has both big fruit flavors to enjoy while the wine is young and the complexity for the wine to age gracefully.
Creekside is a 7.5 acre vineyard lying atop decomposed granite soil (Sierra soil) and along a creek-bed that runs during the rainy season. The vineyard faces southwest benefitting from daylong sun exposure and gentle breezes. The vines are naturally stressed due to dry farming and head pruning techniques.
Aromas of cherries, red licorice, cola, and tobacco greet the nose. On the palate, cherries, cola, and black pepper combine with ample oak to form a full bodied zestful zinfandel.
